Tanah Lot, Denpasar

The temple and the surrounding coastline is magnificent and having dinner in the restaurant on the cliff top overlooking Tanah Lot is superb as the sun is setting BUT to get to the temple you have to endure a busy "circus" of sellers - its like being on the streets of Kuta again. At the bottom of the cliff opposite the temple is a cave with an apparantly "holy snake" in it. You are not allowed even a glimpse of it unless you pay up and it was just a common banded sea Krait (a type of sea snake) that they placed there to get money from tourists in fact while we were there 2 sea kraits were swimming around us and the other tourists in knee deep water-they come ashore in the evenings that's their natural behaviour. You have to join a large queue and pay to get a "real quick" blessing at the base of the temple as well. I would still recommend that you go just be prepared to see a most beautiful, holy, special place to Hindu people ruined by commercialism and greed.

I have been in Bali five times.Tanah Lot 3 times.Many shops offer you very interesting crafts and very cheap.You can get very cheap blouses like ULUWATU dress.Bargain...is the best key word.Very nice people..

We ride the motorcycles all the way from Legian to Tanah Lot, apart from the narrow road, it was really a fun journey. Without any maps, we could actually find Tanah Lot just by following their road signs; it was really easy unlike other country. Along the way, some of the scenery were very nice, especially the paddy fields..... Tanah Lot itself was really fascinating, the scenery, the sunset, the shops (it was cheap shoppin there), the crowd, the bars..... Definitely will be goin back there ....(by bike of course)

The sunset is incredible. I've been to all over the island and watched the sunset view. Still this is the place to be if you'd like to be stricken by beautiful view of dusk...

Well, maybe 'tanah lot' is one of the most popular place in bali or even the most beautiful place in Bali. In the top of tanah lot, you can find pura (holly place for Hindu's) . It called pura tanah lot..This place will get it most beautiful view at sunset.

Tanah Lot was just a few bamboo houses, where simple fishermen caught their sea turtles. In 1971 there was no road. No cars ever appeared. I lived in Tanah Lot for nearly three months. No tourists. Just beautiful simple people living from their rice paddies and wonderful turtle meat. There I learnt Balinese (now forgotten after so many years........) A grassy street ran down through the bamboo houses, in which the snakes from the holy temple often made their homes in the rafters, and one man had a his fighting-cock in a cage hoisted up on a pole about 6 metres above ground level. And a little riverlet ran down the rocks at low tide, so that the people could have a bath. Innocent, lost, little Tanah Lot, has now become a tourist attraction. I am sorry, dear tourists: you have got there too late. About 35 years too late. I even have written a poem about this little village - so beautiful and lost in those days.

This place is just so nice the scenery, the atmosphere. Everything is so perfect. Don't forget to watch the sunset. Over there you can also purchase some beautiful oil painting or just some souveniers. It is also a perfect place to take photos. Do bring along your camera or it will be waste.

I like Tanah Lot every time I go there. It looks great when the tide is high, and a nice place to watch the sunset. I have also seen the rains come in on the ocean, first in the distance and gradually getting closer to the temple. What a sight! Highly recommended.

The temple is really nice. Ocean is quite busy around, and the buildings on the rock are quite impressive. As for me it was a little bit to crowdy and to noisy, but maybe I'm overreacting :)
