Lovina, Singaraja

If you want to see the real Bali: go to North Bali. So much more authentic than the Southern area. Lovina is a good spot to discover the still undisturbed 'black' beaches and green mountains of the quiet Bululeng province. It is not difficult to join an amazing ceremony, like a cremation here. There are many places to stay from high end luxury villas till the most basic homestays. The same with restaurants. A real must is a dolphin safari with a local fisherman in the early morning. But the sunsets with the vulcanoes of Java in the background are also wonderful 'wow' moments. We stayed more than a week in Villa Bali Breeze, a beautiful private villa on the hill above Lovina, with a superb view and great swimming pool. The only negative remark are a few hawkers on the beach. But you must realise that they are very poor and their earnings food mostly a complete family.

Strictly a quiet tourist group stop in North Bali. Very warm water has bleached out most of the coral. I would keep going west of Lovina to Permuteran Bay, and Deer Island ( in the national park ). This is the best diving and snorkling in Bali. Pristine coral !

lovina is everything i have ever wanted from a holiday , lovely people very few tourists very safe to walk around at any time day or night and if you like a small bar with live music so you can join in with the locals (who by the way will all know you by first name basis before you leave )bar kantin 21 is the place to be!. but watch out for the arak !! (local spirit) its very potent !! agung massage and spa in lovina is the most tranquil place i have ever been in my life you have got to check it out if you are in the area . what more can i say but im goin back in january 2007 for 5 weeks !!!

Well, the sand is really nice - soft and with funny colour, but the beach is actually small, with plenty of coral. It is also small, so you can't feel comfortable - that is my opinion.

its great and calming. The sunset is nice and there are not much pests. The trees are nice. It is a perfect place! It is very tropical and I advice you to got there every holiday!!!!!!!!!!!!! By: Anonymous

unfortunately, I lost the card for my hotel, but get directions for Gede Homestay. Don't stay there, although it is nice. Ask for their other hotel with the garden bathrooms. Amazingly cheap and exquisite. Each bungalow is a simple room, clean, a little shabby, but the bathroom is lovely, a high wall covered with flowers, open to the sky, but half covered for privacy. Then DO NOT MISS THIS. Next door is a very simple looking restaurant, Warung Putu. You may notice everyone eating very concentratedly. The food is beyond fantastic. Let Putu choose for you, but be sure to have the fishballs, unbelievable. Fresh mackeral, fabulous. In Hong Kong, this man would be a culinary god. Putu is a lovely man, not grasping at all, but he is struggling with a large family and elderly parents, from whom come the secret recipes. All tips are very appreciated, especially by his sweet daughter who is studying very hard and wants to stay in school but has little chance of funds. If you appreciate the food, Putu will usually come and give you more! Not a good businessman, but very nice. You'll know if you're in the right place if the place next door is a reggae bar, rasta cafe, I think. After Putu's it is a good place to go for a sing song with the locals.
