Hu & Hu Antiques

Description

The owners, Lin Hu and her sister-in-law Marybelle, claim to have a loyal following among expatriates in Shanghai, as well as among overseas antique dealers. With three warehouses of finished and unfinished antique furniture of all styles, Hu and Hu offers custom refinishing of all pieces. Additionally, the shop sells select home accessories such as candles, hand-painted bone china, Southeast Asian tapestries, and original pillows and lamps. Reasonable prices draw customers and, as an added bonus, the owners no-bargaining policy sits well with shoppers who are uncomfortable with the practice.

Extraordinary Place and Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/25/07
One of the most delightful experiences I had on quite a few of my many layovers in Shanghai! And 5 years later the wonderful pieces I bought there still give me a thrill to see and use in many rooms of my home! They are a great group of people and the possibilities are endless as you look through the huge warehouse of old furniture. Take measurements with you of places you might want to put a piece. It will make your decision making so much easier. Especially if you are only there once. I was fortunate as an airline crew member to go often. Plan to spend a few hours there and enjoy!

Don't Miss This When You're Shopping in Shanghai
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/20/04
Marybelle Hu is a delight to meet. Her shop is full of all kinds of treasures. You can snoop through her vast warehouse and find something truly unique. Her staff will make sure it is meticulously refurbished and safely shipped. In a hurry? You're bound to find something ready to go on her showroom floor. While you're there, enjoy a cappucino, donate or buy a paperback for bedtime reading (funds support a local charity) and ask any sightseeing questions. Everyone on the staff speaks excellent English and works hard to make the customer happy. They do it all with a refreshing sense of humor. P. S. Ask them to recommend a great "American Diner" in the neighborhood!
