O'Malley's Irish Pub
Irish to the core, O'Malley's has a friendly Irish band, Irish bartenders and managers, and a not-so-friendly German Shepherd. Housed in a refurbished mansion dating back to the 1920s, the pub's quaint, wooden interiors appeal with nooks and crannies. Expatriates flock here for football games on the big screen television, and live music is from 8.30pm everyday, except Sunday. In warmer months, customers can be found on the bar's famous patio. O'Malley's knows how to serve a pint of Guinness or Kilkenny just right (CNY65). It also offers a surprisingly innovative menu with dishes that are a considerable notch above average pub grub.
Skip eating and this place is great. Live music, attentive service, quiet corners to chat and live sports in the garden when you want. The food however is terrible. I had sausages and mash - the mash was cold and looked like it was days old. This for around 100RMB. Robbery. I go for drinks though.
It is a little tough to get to sometimes by taxi because it is not so well known but once there it is a little haven away from China which sometimes is a bit overwhelming.
It is very close to the American Embassy so if the taxi drops you there it is a very short walk
I was staying in a hotel nearby so I liked its location. The staff, especially the filipino bar man were very friendly. I liked to food but everything was a bit pricey but I am not used to Shanghai prices yet.
I liked the ambience the most...lots of friendly people so worth the price.
