Malone's American Cafe, Shanghai

We had a Groupon for this place, thats the only reason we went there. The food was very bland and boring. I had the mushroom truffle penne, he had the veggie flatbread. The food selection was lackluster.

I enjoyed the atmosphere, the live band makes Malones a fun place to hang out. But the food me and my girlfriend ordered was awful. I couldn't eat my Thai curry, I just left it there. The waitress didn't even ask about why it wasn't eaten. The focus is definitely on the band, which was not bad. I think it's one of the few places/bars for a live band in Shanghai. That's our favorite thing about Malone's.

Went with my US flight crew for Super Bowl “Monday” 2010. There is nothing good to say about the place. The big projection screen TV’s where dim and unwatchable. They ran out of Tiger Beer after the second round (during the “Super Bowl” you run out of a brand of beer at a bar?). Breakfast was included (only 4 choices) with your 100RMB admission. We wanted bar munchies during the game…told ”Not available”….During the Super Bowl! You’re kidding, right? I had to go directly to the manager to open up the grill to cook anything but eggs. Our waitress was incompetent. We had to flag her down constantly for drinks during the game. They wanted us to pay as we go. I insisted on a tab, which they finally agreed too. The food (nachos, wings etc) were less than TGI Fridays quality at Tony Roma prices. I had been there for dinner once before about six months ago and was unimpressed then. I know other people have written good reviews about the place, but I guess they were raised to have low expectations.

I am a local shanghainese. I love Chinese food and American burger. Well, I finally found a place where I can eat REAL American burger in Shanghai. I've just been there last weekend. It was the first time. Found it by chance. They have good food, well service, real drinks [some places serve fake alcohol :(], excellent live band perform well-known songs. It's a must-go place to enjoy your weekend.

Awesome American style Sports Bar. Some of the best burgers I've had in the world -- thick, juicy, and full of flavor! Excellent house band. THe place is a party every night. Great beer and drink selection, and they even have "beer girls" like some U.S. bars do! Dressed in Heineken, Coors Light, etc., cute dresses. Highly recommended, and apparently now with a Pudong location also.

I got the best hamburger & fries that I had in 3.5 years of living in Asia! But it was expensive--$ 7 US in 2003. Bar/grill atmosphere. Reasonable service.

I am from Europe but live in Shanghai. I think Malone's has a great reputation for several reasons. And I have to say, overall I like it so I go there about 3 times a month in average. It's well located, it's cosy, there is outdoor space, the staff is friendly, the food comes in big portion (it's overall nice but do not expect anything fancy; a lot of the dishes are a bit gross, there to fill you up rather than giving you a dining experience). It's a bar after all, with good atmosphere and the drinks list is long... The margarita is not great, but I've still yet to find a place in Shanghai that does it just right, so no bad point there, really. What I actually like at Malone's is the live band, called Art 6, part of the top-3 best music bands in Shanghai! They were invited to play at the Ceremony of the Paraolympics last Autumn so you can imagine they must be pretty good and friendly. They are good artists and those singers really make you feel like singing and dancing. Anyone coming to Shanghai should visit that place in the evening, even if only once. This is a must-experience in SH.

I was in Shanghai for one year and I had trouble ajusting to Chinese food. When I was introduced to Malone's that made my stay extremely pleasant knowing that I could enjoy an American meal (variety)just around the corner from where I stayed. I indulged in several of Malone's dishes and had several events there as well. The food is second to none in Shanghai and the price was right. The band was great and the (hola Maya) most interesting thing was that all of them sang. The place was cozy and the staff was on their toes at all times. I built a good rapport with one of the managers (Phil) and it was a good feeling to be welcomed each day by name. A must place to go to on your visit to Shanghai and enjoy the fine dishes they offer. When you go there ask for Judy or Lisa, they are excellent staff members and will treat you right.

Malones is a great place with 3 floors. The band is great and hot. The food is very good (if you like western food in china) and the place rocks. The servers have great skills and will keep you happy and satisfied. If you get there ask for Bobo - she's the best ! You can stay and close the place then go with all the folks you meet to Manhatten's - the after hours pub a couple blocks away. Another great place !

EXCELLENT, simple excellent. Every bite is wonderful. We love the potato skins, the burgers are the best.Take your loved one's to Malone's, breakfast, lunch or Dinner or when you want some fine food that makes you feel wonderful. Thank-you Malone's.
