Great Wall

Description

China's Great Wall stretches east-west for more than 5000 kilometers. Its origins can be traced to the 7th Century BCE, when independent kingdoms constructed separate walls to keep out marauding nomads. China's first emperor linked many of these during the Qin Dynasty (221-207 BCE). It was renovated several times in later centuries. Built along the rolling ridges of steep mountains, it offers spectacular, even awe-inspiring views, and is surely one of humankind's greatest architectural achievements. The Great Wall is best enjoyed in sections, some of the more popualr visiting sites include Badaling , Mutianyu , Simatai and Huanghuacheng . Badaling is by far the most visited section and each has its own charms. At any given section of the wall, be prepared to wear sturdy shoes and dress for inclimate weather.

I loved the Great Wall!! It was the most amazing place in the whole world. I can't wait to go back and hopefully someday soon! It is such an experience and I suggest it to anybody who likes walking. You can buy souvenirs that say you've walked the Great Wall.

The Forbidden City, known as the the Palace Museum, was the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties. In early 15 th century, the capital of the Ming Dynasty was moved from Nanjing to Beijing.24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties ruled from the Forbidden City. The last dynasty fell in 1911,but emperor Puyi still lived in the inner count. It was not until 1925 that the complex was converted into a museum.Since then the palace has been opened to the public. The Temple of Heaven was the place where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshipped heaven and prayed for good harvests. They came here twice a year.At first, both heaven and earth were worshipped here. After 1530 when the Temple of Earth was built in the northern suburbs, only heaven was worshipped in this temple. .The last night we have Beijing Roast Duck for dinner, then we watch Peking Opera(or Acrobatics) Enjoy your perfect travel within 7 days. Awe inspiring journey
By ,
It was fantastic to be able to "touch" China's ancient history. It was an adventure, as is most everything in China. There is tram that will take you part way up; or you can elect to walk/climb the whole way. I recommend that if you go to Bejing for the Olympics in '08, allow enough time to take a trip to The Great Wall. Go before it disappears!!
By ,
I really love this place because it holds so much history in itself. Many people died making this "Great Wall" and many were saved from it. It protected people from invaders. But because of the many and frequent sand storms, this "Great Wall" will soon disappear. The sand is covering a lot of this magnificent artifact. I hope you all know that this is the only artifact that can be seen from space.. its really that big! So go see it before its too late!! =D

Emotionally so touched! And, speechless!!
By ,
I was born in China, and now live in USA. I went to The Great Wall first time in 1991, and went back again this summer. To me, those two visits have been the most unforgettable experiences! You have to be there to feel what I felt so splendor, so grand with the blue sky above and the vast green hilly mountains under.

The most spectacular construction in the earth
By ,
I visited the palce in summer 2004. I was speechless when I reached the peak point of it in Ba Da Ling area. I was deeply touched. Here is the old Chinese saying: He Who Has Not Climbed the Great Wall Is Not a Real Man!
