China's Great Wall stretches east-west for more than 5000 kilometers. Its origins can be traced to the 7th Century BCE, when independent kingdoms constructed separate walls to keep out marauding nomads. China's first emperor linked many of these during the Qin Dynasty (221-207 BCE). It was renovated several times in later centuries. Built along the rolling ridges of steep mountains, it offers spectacular, even awe-inspiring views, and is surely one of humankind's greatest architectural achievements. The Great Wall is best enjoyed in sections, some of the more popualr visiting sites include Badaling , Mutianyu , Simatai and Huanghuacheng . Badaling is by far the most visited section and each has its own charms. At any given section of the wall, be prepared to wear sturdy shoes and dress for inclimate weather.
I was in China last year and went to Beijing and the Great Wall. Thrilling to say the least. Wear very comfortable shoes. We went in Aug. first thing in the morning. Our guide said we were lucky it was only 80 degrees. The Wall can be tricky when walking down as the stairs are at different levels.
Going back to China again this summer and plan to climb the Wall again!

Going to the Great Wall was an awesome experience! To absorb the history of the wall in the spirit of the many who walked there before me was almost a "spiritual" experience. Going up in a ski lift and tobagganing down were unexpected surprises--both very much fun.
The "merchant alley" that we had to walk through to get to the entrance should be relocated to make "shopping" an optional path. The "hawkers" were pushy and loud.
"You're not a real man if you haven't climbed the Great Wall" One man said about Great wall in China. It's amazing. Last year, I had a chance to visit Beijing and see Great Wall of course. It's great thing.
It was the awesomest! It was soooooooo much fun!!! Except it was really hot so remember to bring lots of water and sunblock! You don't want to get dehydrated and miss out on all the fun. Oh yeah, and don't get one of those tour guides cause they like to hold little likds hands and it's kinda weird...so yeah. Anyways, you should try it!!!
