Situated in the south of the city, this stunning temple park was built between 1406 and 1420. It was here that the emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties prayed, through an elaborate ritual, to the gods for good rains and good harvests. There are four main areas - the Round Altar, Echo Wall, the Vault of Heaven and the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests. The distinctive outline of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is a symbol of Beijing, and a whisper at any point on the echo wall can be heard anywhere else along its length of 64 meters (210 feet). Throughout the temple complex intricate details symbolize earth and celestial bodies. In fact, every element of the temple is constructed with such precision that no tile or pillar is without a specific meaning.

Heaven in Beijing
By Geraldine, 01/16/08
I adored this place, The enormity of many of th structures in Beijing never fails to amaze- they do not do things by halves! The serenity here is surely felt. The brilliant blue of the rooves is stunning and the gardens that surround the buildings are cool and refreshing in the summer heat. Vendors here are not aggressive either and it is pleasant ot wander through- make sure you check out the whispering wall it is very cool!!

this place is like heaven even though i am a kid this is so memorable from the olden time back in 2001 i came here and it was F-U-N. it felt so old and so joyful somehow. the wall is like pure rock and i accidently listened to a secret conversation. :)well who cares i got hooked up on a branch and i was stuck (well not for long) this place is echoing into my head the happyness and the joy i had in me

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/29/06
I found this place pretty interesting. I saw a plaque and picture saying that Confucious was sacrificed, but it should have said that Confucious was sacrificed to. I'm trying to find more in depth information regarding this ........

I loved it...
By Gins, 03/29/06
If you are looking to have some fun with the People of China... walk around in open open open green space... sit amidst a groove... then welcome to the Temple of Heaven. What I loved most about the place was the groups of people (mostly elderly) sitting in groups and singing.. in some groups you will even have a person playing some instrument... the flute or a violin.. its amazing! I loved the folks playing the kick the tiny feathered spring to each other game... there were many who were playing that! Its really nice...

A Beijing Must See!!
By Lardboy, 09/14/05
The Temple of Heaven is a Beijing must see. This is a fairly long rectangular park that includes many excellent features and structures. The Echo Wall is a circular structure in which your sounds travel around the inside wall to be heard on the other side. The actual main temple is very beautiful and impressive, as are the halls on either side of it displaying religious artifacts. There are many gates to pass through with smaller temples, sacrificial alters, and parade grounds. The park that surrounds the temple structures is also a good place to watch the locals or relax with a snack.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION
By D, 07/19/05
The main temple is under construction so all you see are workers and green awnings but the grounds were fabulous and a very neat place to see local culture. the old people would all gather for a game of hackey sack (really! i've video of this!) or badminton or just playing instruments. Really fabulous atmosphere even if you didn't see the temple itself.
