Situated in the China World Trade Center, this is definitely the most expensive, and arguably the best, Indian restaurant in town. The surroundings are refined and elegant with exotic Indian touches. Service is discreet and professional. The clientele is generally non-Chinese. The extensive menu offers a vast selection of curries and vegetables, including Tandoori chicken, dhal tadka (creamed lentils) and palak paneer (spinach and homemade cheese). The food comes with authentic naan bread, either plain or with onions or sesame seeds. There are sauces and flavored yogurt lassi drinks to enhance the flavors.
We were at the China World Trade Centre branch yesterday. The food was pathetic. Service better not talked about. No salt in one dish. Extra salt in another and loads of Garam masala in veg dishes. I have been to about 100 Indian restaurants outside India but this one was in the last 10% on food and last 5% on service. No one even bothered to say that you.
There are only a few things that Lonely Planet get wrong and this is certainly one of them. We ordered from The Ganges couple of days ago. Promprt delivery, good food.
My husband and I have been going to the Taj since 1999 in Beijing... and it has always been a great place to go. The manager/owner of the restaurant is a tremendous man - very ocurteous staff - and the food is outstanding. Prefer the China World branch to the Lido hotel version, though. It's a good business meal, date night, or a convenient place to meet up. Right on the subway, all taxis know where it is, and there is sufficient parking. It's one of our favorites in Beijing!
Food and service were excellent. Was also very clean and in a nice area. This is a great place to go if you want rich flavors that make you hum with every bite. One of the best Indian restaurants I have been to (including ones India). Wonderful vegetarian menu.
