With no McDonalds in town, it is left to local imitator, Lucky Burger, to hold up the flag for international fast food culture in Phnom Penh. There is little to separate the Lucky chain from the global heavyweights of the burger business either in terms of food or decor. The local burgers are given creative names like "Lucky Burger with cheese" and the interior gleams of plastic. Beverages include soft drinks and milkshakes.
I've been at this Burger chain several times, you don't have much choice in Phnom Penh anyway. I think they really need that profit from coke, I cannot even push the straw till the bottom of the glass. Whew! I tried to order for coke without ice the next time and they only filled a bit more than half the cup. So the next time I got hungry, I went to Master Grill instead. Better ambiance, more choices, and most importantly, I CAN ENJOY A FULL GLASS OF COKE WITHOUT ICE!
They fill the drinks carefully shielding your view of the business with their bodies, but you can see them pouring water into the cup.
So what you get is vaguely Coke-flavored water.
Apparently they think you won't know the difference, and it must save them 2 or 3 cents per day. So rather than honestly raise their prices, they cheat you.
God knows what they do to the meat.
Lucky Burger sells it all; burgers, fried chicken, ice cream and coffee.
I tried the double burger which is their version of the Big Mac and I almost couldnt tell the difference. Its pretty good but the bread is holding them back. I also tried their version of the McD burger. It was good but not as good as their double burger for some reason. Maybe I wasnt as hungry! ha ha
The fries there are really good. Just as good as McDonalds. All in all it was very good experience. The place was clean, air conditioned and it had a fast food restaurant ambiance which is refreshing for Phnom Penh.
