Santarama Miniland, Johannesburg

South Africa has developed and changed dramatically over the 28-year period that Santarama Miniland, the entertainment complex has been open. A new scale model of Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was held prisoner, floats on a replica of the East London Harbour situated along a bank of Wemmer Pan. Replicas of the old Jan Smuts Airport, Turffontein Race Course, Pietersburg Station, the Union Buildings and the Hillbrow Tower are some of the 80 scale models. A full-scale replica of Jan Van Riebeeck's ship, the Dromedarus, takes visitors on a free boat ride on the dam. Extra enjoyment is provided with a jumping castle and a nine-hole mini golf course, so children and parents alike are well catered to.
