Chinatown

Description

This corner of multi-cultural Johannesburg has, over the years, attracted immigrants from the Far East who have introduced a colourful array of restaurants and shops to the area. From hair salons to gift shops, supermarkets and grocers, Chinatown offers an exciting selection of exotic shopping alternatives to Johannesburgers. Browse around for silk purses and kimonos and be carried away to a different part of the world with the sounds of oriental languages and music. An educational experience for all children, it is also pleasurable for parents.

GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY
By ,
Chinatown at Bruma is litterly on my doorstep. I am on the East Rand and use to travel to the one at Crown Mines. The Bruma Chinatown looks like absolutely nothing from the outside but once you are inside you do not know where to start. The area outside is a bit suspect and I will not go there on my own as I buy stocks for a shop I have to take cash as these guys do not do CARD, There is a ATM, right at the entrance where every Tom, Dick and Harry can see you draw money so it is better not to use it. I found the parking very limited but if you go early in the morning it is not a problem. The shop owners try very hard to speak English and if they can't they will find someone to help you. You can buy clothes, shoes, undies, bedding, wedding dresses, kitches utencils, electrical ware, furniture; in fact anything. Party goodies and even food. I bought chicken spring rolls last weekend and they were great. Unfortunately you dare not use the bathrooms. We wanted to wash hands and found somebody Pooped in a basin. The stink was aweful. So girls go on empty, do your shopping and then go piddle and wash hand at the nearest garage.
