Wandie's is a successful restaurant catering mainly for tourists eager to soak up the sights and sounds of the township. None of that anti-social grabbing of small tables here. Diners eat at communal tables in this modestly appointed restaurant, where the food and friendly service is allowed to shine. Apparently, luminaries such as Quincy Jones, Dionne Warwick and Richard Branson have enjoyed meals at Wandie's. Wandie's caters for the diner who wants to sample a taste of Africa. Tuck into some beef or lamb stew, tripe, fish or chicken, accompanied by some good old South African mielie pap (savory stiff porridge).
Four of us had a meal at Wandies (Airport) and we were sooooo impressed. The place was clean, the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was great. 10 out of 10 for a restaurant. Good value for your money. Well done keep up the good work.
Hi ... I recently took two overseas visitors to the Wandies at the airport.. I want to say that i was totally embarrassed and soemthing needs to be done about it.
I had heard of the reputation of Wandies so presumed the restaurant at the airport would bs the same. It was nothing short of a total embarrassment to SA and the comment from my visitors was that the service and mere tea that we had was shocking.
1. Confusion over who was serving us - so no one did ... for ages.
2. It was Sunday 20 DEc at 11.00 and it was not busy. Eventually got someones attention and we then ordered two teas and a decaf cappucino.
3. Order took ages and my visitors were catching a plane.
4. Order came with 1 tea and 1 filter coffee.
5. Left one tea and went back for correct order
5. 2nd tea was brought with an undrinkable burnt cappucino.
6. we had to pay R39 for a disastrous and embarrassing tea break before my visitors left SA.
7. Last impressions are lasting impressions.
A fun place, especially to two newbies to Africa from Oregon, USA. The food was excellent, the atmosphere easy-going, the business cards from all over the world surprising and interesting.
I would definitely recommend it to others for an excellent large meal at a very reasonable price.
