Golden Mile Beaches
Durban has a long tradition - even a fascination - with surfing. It is a part of Durban's youth culture, due to the brilliant 'breaks' Durban has to offer the avid surfer. There is even a museum dedicated to it. The most popular surfing beaches are along the Golden Mile and the Bay of Plenty - you shouldn't find it difficult to find surfers to watch. There are surfing competitions and the annual Mr. Price Pro competition (formerly the Gunston 500) - ask at Tourist Junction for more details.
It is no wonder how the "Golden Mile" earned is name, for every visitor that visits this vibrant beach with its melting pot of cultures will leave it with golden memories. The sounds of toddlers feeding the pigoens, buskers perfoming on side walks, vendors selling there trades, the mixed aromas of surf and `bunny chows' and just the overall African atmosphere is enough to etche a beautiful memory in any travelors mind!!
