Windsor Park Municipal Golf Course
This inexpensive course is extremely popular - more than 80,000 rounds are played here annually. Windsor Park is a flat, woodland, "parklike" course of 18 holes. It is very easily located a few minutes north of Durban city centre on NMR, turning left onto Windsor just before the Umgeni river. Tuition is available and equipment can be hired. Come with a group of friends and enjoy a game at the Windsor Park Municipal Golf Course. Call for details.
It is a wonderful little course with great potential however it has been neglected by the Municipality, most courses would have closed after this neglect however Windsor has survived.
If the officials wake up in time this little gem will be like gold......
It needs work on the tee boxes and greens......
A general clean up would be good as well
A particularly dry winter and a lack of adequate irrigation has left the course in rather bad shape. The fairways in particular are bone dry with very little grass cover in some places. The greens and tee boxes have been watered but not sufficienty to give a good putting surface. General "housekeeping" around the course is still pretty good with bunkers raked, leaves swept, facilities clean and tidy, etc. Don't get me wrong, this lovely old parkland course is still very playable and worth a visit. It is such a pity that the local Municipality has not given it the same attention it has given to the new soccer stadium and its surrounds.
Trying to find a level spot on the tee is tough, but once you have got it launched you'll find the fairways very good and the greens in excellent condition. The first nine is extremely easy with par 5's reachable with driver 6 iron. The second nine however is a different matter and virtually every tee shot is through an alley of trees. Overall for around R65 a round on a weekend its great fun to play.
