Roma Revolving Restaurant, Ethekwini

The most discusting service i have ever had - had to wait a hour to be seated and we had booked a month in advance(had to order in the reception area so that we wouldnt have to wait longer at the table when seated, they then just made a table squashed amoungst others- this was rediculous as we pay good money to get a decent table, we then requested a better table and waited another 20min (it is ovbious that they had overbooked themselves)the manager was nowhere to be found and the staff was so unhelpful, i will never go to this restaurant again!

Roma is not in a safe area of the city. It is not used as it was many years ago. To visit there one must think of it as a relic of an earlier time in order to appreciate it. It's like visiting the older parts of Las Vegas. Smoky, smelly, but if you're polite, ask to speak to the maitre'D rather than sit and complain, you will receive the best attention and the views are unsurpassed. Just be careful going to and from your car.

The view was wonderful but apart from that, it looks dirty, old and smells stale with all that old smoke...the place needs a revamp quick! Was to afraid to order.

Three of us including my wife, my son and myself went to have lunch at Roma Revolving on the Easter Sunday. The reception was good and we were shown to our reserved table. Then we placed an order of drinks and the service was reasonable up to this point. After his we were totally neglected. We had to call another waiter to call the person who is responsible for taking orders. He came after 15 minutes; took the orders did not write any where. After one hour we had to send a reminder. I believe the actual preparation started at this time and in 15 minutes we had somebdy serving us. The food was terrible as it was put together in a hurry. The spices never got time to seep into the fish. My wife got rice soaked (drowned) in periperi source and a few prawns that were not cooked properly. We have learned our lesson. You do not have time for some of your customers. Next time we will choose more carefully where to go.

My boyfriend and I had looking forward to visiting roma for awhile, and were unfortunately very disappointed with the experience. Firstly, the decor is in dire need of a revamp. I understand keeping the vintage look, however, it can be achieved in a more classy manner. Service was pathetic, we had to call someone not designated to our table numerous times to be served, and the waitrons really need to be trained on proper etiquette eg. our waitor mumbled "what you drinking there" when attempting to take a drink order. The food was well below par. My boyfriend had the crayfish thermidore (sq), and was extremely disappointed. My sole was nothing to rave about either. At the prices they charge, I expected much better views. The only good points are the view, and I have to say the dessert trolley looked amazing, but we were so put off by the time dessert rolled around, that we didn't even have any. It is so disappointing that a restaurant with such potential is lacking so much. We will not return anytime soon :(

Our 1st time visit very very disappoingting. Services absolutely non existant. Place was very hot and stuffy, and smokers lounge in public entrance area. Has to be the worst of the 37 revolving restaurants.

We went back to Roma for a 4th time and with friends who had not been before.This was our second New Year's Eve visit and we were very, very disappointed! We expected the service to be slow but having arrived at 8pm we were still eating well past 11pm!!! My wife and I had the Chateaubriand and after the Sea food Chowder she could only eat half the portion of steak. She asked to take the rest of the main course home with her and it was given to her in a carton. When we returned home, it was placed in our fridge and we did not bother to check the contents until the following evening. Only 3 pieces of the steak were there and not 4 and all the vegetables were missing, what little we had of them because those portions were small! It left a sour taste I'm afraid, especially when I telephoned that evening to explain what had happened thinking that maybe honesty and their reputation might come into the equation!? Not so, I'm still waiting to hear from the manager who was just too busy at the time to even offer an apology!! I think that we will look elsewhere-regardless of the view!?!?

The management and staff are first class. We live abroad but whenever we are in Durban, South Africa, at least one meal at the Roma is a must - it feels like coming home! The views are awesome overlooking Durban.

It is the perfect setting for the perfect view of beautiful DURBS while enjoying a sumptious gourmet meal with our loved ones. I make a point of going to Roma everytime I visit my family in Durbs... even if it is just to have some drinks with friends.

Simply great food, the best tomatosoup you have ever tasted combined with the most extraordinary view and friendly service, makes us go back again + again.
