L'Auberge Du Paysan
Description
This is a very French, very classy restaurant. It is set in an elegant country venue with the mood and character of a French provincial restaurant and high standards of service and cuisine to match its aesthetic charms. A long room with a wood-beamed ceiling, attractively upholstered wooden chairs, a terracotta floor and fine finishes such as electric lamps on the tables instead of candles, all lend L'Auberge its grace. The fabulous, classic French country cuisine does not skimp on fine ingredients. Crayfish soup is a must, as is the Terrine de Paysan (pheasant) with brandy and port wine. Vegetarian dishes can be made to order. Instead of wine by the glass, carafes of good wine are offered.
L'Auberge du Paysan is now under new ownership of Rowald Vonck. The food is fantastic, and is of an international fusion style. Try it out and they have food and wine paring evenings.
Fabulous food in a delightful setting, truly a highspot of our trip to the Winelands. Fresh, highest quality, local ingredients presented with a delicate French touch.
The food,the setting,the atmosphere;in a word-everything.
It is not an onerous drive from Cape Town;on the contrary,it is just far enough to have stimulated the the taste buds to do justice to the meal.
