Saigon

Description

Saigon is the city's Vietnamese alternative to all the Thai, Chinese and Japanese options and does a super job. Saigon is large and spacious with floor length windows. The waiting staff is beautifully dressed in bright, traditional silk wear. The taste sensation that awaits you is subtle on chilli and sweeter than Thai thanks to the use of pineapple and sugar-cane. Add the crispness of mint, basil and lettuce and you have Vietnam's healthy and delicious cuisine. Simply superb, is the barbecued duck with five spices, topped with hoisin sauce as well as the caramelised fish with pepper. There's a medium range of Cape wines on offer.

We can't wait to go back

Great place, original food and awesome chocolate muss. Great location for drinks after dinner. Not exclusively Vietnamese, but who cares when the presentation and the food is good and prices aren't that bad for what you get.

not really that authentic
By ,
They claim that there are Vietnamese chefs, but the pho there wasn't so great. Prices are a bit expensive compared to what I'm used to in California but it's a really nice restaurant and you can see Table Mountain from your table if you reserve in advance. The ingredients for Vietnamese dishes are difficult to obtain in Africa, but they did have certain herbs and vegetables. I was surprised that there was even rice paper wraps. I couldn't find rice paper anywhere in the shops in South Africa. Saigon also offers sushi as well. Let me ask you though, what kind of authentic Vietnamese restaurant would offer Japanese cuisine and have a restaurant called Saigon and print their business cards on paper with printed with the new Vietnamese flag? Saigon is the old name of the city and contradicts with the new communist flag. It's just a little ridiculous to me. And serving Japanese food? The food of the enemy that contributed to the death of 2 million Vietnamese in the 1940's. This restaurant difinitely chose profit over authenticity.
