La Scala, Cape Town

Enjoy an individualistic take on African and world dining. After 21 years, La Scala is still looking and tasting good. Decorated in charcoal and deep browns, the restaurant opens out into the refurbished Cavendish Square Mall. There is an extensive African influenced menu, with plenty for vegetarian meals to chew on and a couple of old classics. Expect spice, but subtly used, and a refreshing lack of pretentiousness. The veal piccata is great, as is the roast duck du cassis with blueberries. There is a small list of wines with the emphasis on affordability.
