The Sphinx
Description
Of all of Egypt's monuments, none is as majestic and haunting as the Great Sphinx. It was named by the Greeks, because of its physical similarity to a mythical creature with a lion's body and woman's head who devoured passers-by unable to answer her riddle. Arabs know it as Abu el-Hol (Father of Terror). Carved out of a limestone outcropping in front of the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx is 50 x 20 meters (165 x 65 feet) high. Some archeologists attribute its construction to the IV Dynasty pharaoh Khafre (who built one of the three pyramids behind it), but others suggest it may be much older. The nose and beard were later shot off by Mameluke troops who used the Sphinx for target practice. Visitors cannot climb on the monument, but there is a viewing platform accessible through the granite mortuary temple to one side.
A total waste of time and money.while we were on the trip my whole family were nagging me. We were waiting for our flight back home. It was so hot. i got a sunstroke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A fabulous trip back to the time of the pharos to see the pyramids is a facinating experience the egyptian people are very warm p.s. I was in cario 2/o5
very minimal price for a GREEAT experience you'll remember for years! Once you see this thing in person it is VERY different than seeing it in person. WOW what a sight!
What I like most is the how the structure was architecturally designed. What amazed me most was the way the design was organised in such a way that, the structure can withstand all kind of disasters.I believe that there was an exterior force during the time of building that sphinix.
