Serapeum of Saqqara
Discovered in 1851 by the famous archeologist Mariette, the Serapeum is a temple that was dedicated to the Apis bulls. The Apis was associated with the God Ptah and was even believed to be an incarnation of him. When the bulls died, they were buried in an enormous granite sarcophagus. Only one of the 25 bulls that were buried here was found when the site was excavated. This can now be seen in the Agricultural Museum.
