Basílica de Santa Teresa
Description
This architectural complex is actually made up of two churches, Santa Teresa to the east and Santa Ana to the west, both joined in the centre by the main altar. The Church of Saint Theresa was declared a Basilica by Pope Paul VI and it is the best known and visited of the twin churches because El Nazareno de San Pablo (The Nazarene of St. Paul) is venerated within its interior. This magnificent carved wooden statue is an image that is both sacred and a performer of miracles for many believers. The Basilica also houses certain very valuable colonial objects.
