Galipán, Caracas

Galipan is a very special place in the hearts of the people of Caracas. It is a very industrious little town (to which you access from the main cable train station) that has provided the capital with flowers for generations. Flores de Galipan(flowers from Galipan is a sign that you will come across quite often when visiting Caracas, specially in kiosks or squares like La Candelaria or Miranda. The town itself was almost destroyed by the landslide that took place in El Avila mountain in December 1999. It was founded in the eighteenth century by immigrants from the Canary Islands. Its inhabitants have promised to rebuild it in its entirety, which they will without a doubt.
