Machu Picchu

Description

Words cannot convey the incredible sensation of standing amidst the enigma of this city and its fabulous architecture. On the summit of a great bluff, the palaces, plazas, interminable stairways, fountains, towers and homes are surrounded by vertically plunging cliffs, precipices and ravines. It is thought to have been the residence of priests and noble cusqueños, and to have been constructed in the 14th and 15th centuries. Archaeological finds show that the Spaniards did reach here, but perhaps thanks to the awe and respect it inspires, they chose to leave the ruins intact for Bingham to re-discover. Take the train, bus or helicopter from Cusco to Aguas Calientes and a tour bus from there.

Amazing Experience in Peru - Machu Picchu
By Roy, 3/4/12
We are very pleased with the one day tour in Machu Picchu set up by Qeros Tours Peru with Rubens as our escort who was very punctual and patience with us. He is a nice fine young man and extremely polite. We had a memorable adventure together with him. We all enjoyed the tour to Machu Picchu. It will be our pleasure to recommend Qeros Tours Peru to our friends who would like a private tour in Peru.

Salcantay Trail to Macchu Pichu
By Louis, 6/21/11
I recently took a trip to Macchu Pichu. After interviewing several tour companies, I went with PeruvianDreamTrek.com. Willie, our tour guide, was charming, engaged, and went above and beyond the call of duty in making our trip memorable. His respect for the environment, the porters, and the Incan culture and tradition was unlike the other tours that I spoke with. I strongly recommend Peruvian Dream Treks to any intrepid globetrotter that wants to hike the old Incan trails to the 'lost city of gold'.

Machu Picchu MUST bring your own water
By kongkiat, 11/17/10
Bring as much water you can carry because once you in Machu Picchu, there are not a place where you can buy water or use restroom. Also in town is 4 sol water in MP 10sol.

A must see.
By trueyahoo, 8/8/08
Undescribable beauty. The dictionary hasn't got words to describe the experience. It is fun, it is beautiful and definitely should be on your list of places to go before you die. The people are so kind, the animals are so sweet and this ancient site is breathtaking.

Incredible
By Elliot, 6/21/08
What a magnificent creation! We hiked the Inca Trail and viewed Machu Pichu at sunrise. Wow! The Inca Trail was a great experience and certainly one feels a sesnse of accomplishment but may not be for everyone due to it's strenuous nature and altitude.

Machu Picchu
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/22/08
I went there in 2001 with my wife, Peruvian and my cousin with his wife and daughters. In February, the Urubamba river is running hard in the Valley of the gods. Riding the train at that time is just boss...I spent overnight in aguas caliente and had an experience that cannot repeated. The site itself is, like someone else put it, a once in a lifetime story. I walked with my cousin from hotel through Machu and to the top of Wayna Picchu and back. 7 hours a pair of hurting feet. I imagine the cost has escalated since I went 7 years ago BUT the experience is "priceless" HEY, if anyone wants to experience another great Peru treasure, check out the Colca Valley.. That was pretty incredible as well. I saw the magic Condor on my tour. WOW !!!Make sure you spend the extra bucks and stay in the Colca lodge which is in the valley and has the River running right past it.

Putu-Kusi
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/5/08
This is really an awsome place, however, if you want to see the plenitude of its beauty, you have to hike Putukusi, wich is the mountain across from Machu- Picchu on the East side; it is not an easy hike, but you will be rewarded with a view of the real magnitud of the city. Spend the night on Aguas Calientes, and hike Putukusi early in the morning , you will also contemplate a sunrise that you will never forget......That's bonus.
