Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes

Description

Chilean architect Emilio Jequier designed this beautiful palace and museum to replicate the Petit Palais of Paris. The palace now houses the Fine Arts Museum, one of the most important in the country and the oldest in South America. Inside the stately interior, visitors find around 2,700 paintings by foreign and Chilean artists, as well as interesting reproductions, sketches and sculptures. The museum also houses a large slide collection and an art library with more than 15,000 volumes, documents and archives. Entry is free on Sundays.

Very good collection
By mairabay, 6/10/08
I went on a Sunday when it's free. And even the free exhibitions are very interesting, and have great artistic value (you can learn a lot about Chilean art!).

be aware!!
By Hide, 7/25/07
I read all the reviews before going here, and I visited here since it is close eough from the Cerro Santa Lucia. Though the building was beautiful, the art inside was not as good as I expected. I mean,, I do not know the art, so pretty much it was boring. If you like art, I would recommend it, but otherwuse, NO!!!

this place is awesome it is the best go to it if you have the chance while your in Santiago. This is the best museum i've been to out of five others that are in Chile. the atmosphere is excellent, and i loved the artwork they displayed.

Bellas Artes: Magnificent
By Silvia, 2/13/06
I loved the building and the setting, but something more important to me is that while it is a museum, it is not a dead thing. It is functioning, fully alive with people undertaking great art courses run by well-known local artists. I also liked the areas around, beautiful and elegant streets, parks, free concerts and craft markets!

Pretty Great
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/10/05
I really liked the whole theme of the museum. It's definately different than other museums that I've gone to. And trust me, I have gone to a lot. The place was a little empty at the time, but was worth the visit. I plan on returning soon!
