Its one of the largest urban parks in the world (722 hectares, 1785 acres)
Santiago has one of the largest urban parks in the world (722 hectares, 1785 acres), located aside of Bellavista: "San Cristobal Hill". This wonderful lush park includes a small 4.5 hectares zoo (Jardin Zoologico), a cable car, gardens and restaurants. Ideal for tourists, sports, hiking, biking, swimming (panoramic pool). At the top of San Cristobal Hill, there are spectacular panoramic views of the city and skyscrapers (CostaneraCenter 70floors in construction, the tallest in Southamerica by 2009!). Crowning the hilltop are beautiful tiered gardens and an impressive 45ft(15m) marble-statue of the Virgin Mary that can be seen from most points in the city. (For Christians: open-air mass every Sunday noon).
How to get to San Cristobal or Bellavista? Just go to Baquedano Subway Station -Metro- it’s excellent, clean and cheap. It costs 50cents a ride and the French-modern train seems to always come in a few minutes.
