Description

The seafood here is simply superb, especially the lobster, shrimp and squid, which is grilled and served with memorable sauces. Beware of the couvert—excellent, but almost a meal by itself. The wine list is good, the tiramisu is one of the best around, and on Saturdays there is a seafood buffet. The restaurant is large, pleasant and always full, and is one of the preferred places of artists, businessmen and politicians. Valet parking is provided.

Enjoy, But Don't Expect Too Much
By ,
Top restaurants in Rio all suffer the same problem: attentive service and local culture clash. Your waitor may seem a bit put off to have to actually do his job. The food is good enough, though nothing to rave about, but the atmosphere offers great people watching and the wine list is excellent. It is worth a trip. Try the opening appetizer sampler, if anything. If you are accustomed to fine dining, you may want to lower your expectations. Satyricon is often over-hyped by concierges.

what a disappointment!!
By ,
I had read great reviews of this restaurant, so I couldn't wait to taste the food. we arrived and were seated immediately, the staff was attentive and friendly from the start. I ordered a lime juice drink and it arrived with no sugar in it, (and things went downhill from here) everywhere I had been in Rio and ordered a lime juice, it always was sweetened, but not here. The appetizers arrived and my scallops were well prepared 4 of them, but were tiny bay scallops - each no bigger than 1.5 inches in diameter. My friend ordered a mixed shellfish grill and I ordered a salmon dish. My salmon was overcooked and his grill was salty. I was disappointed with the quality and quantity nd left, only to find my friend strickened with food poisoning from his mixed grill. The only plus was Cipro (an antibotic) is available from any pharmacy in Rio without a prescription. The quality, and quantity of the food was a real disappointment. Sad to say, but Red lobster in the USA is half the price and SO much better quality and quantity.

Exceptional seafood for an occasional splurge
By ,
We went for a light but celebratory Sunday lunch, greatly enjoying the Marenostrum mixture of raw seafood (including, unusually, delicious sea urchins). Expensive (Rs$ 258 for just this dish, normally a starter for two, plus one caipirinha and a bottle of less expensive Chilean wine), but well worth it, for a truly memorable meal. Pleasant ambience, very good service. We'll be back, for the lobster (which is kept alive, in a tank).

A Regular

Service is always excellent, all the sea food dishes are very well prepared. They have an very good wine selection and the ambiance is comfortable and quiet. One dessert selection a chocolate lover must try is the Petit Gateau.........

This is the place for seafood!
By ,
Satyricon was a pleasant surprise for my wife b/c she loves seafood. The service there was excellent and it had a nice ambience. Yes, it's pricey but if you waive off the couvert and don't order drinks or desert, you'll get out of there for a reasonable price. The seafood is outstanding. I had the prawns and fish on a skewer and my wife had the 24 piece sushi combination sampler. The Maitre D' was very attentive. I love how they lay out the impressive fish, huge prawns, etc on ice and the lobsters in big tanks. Watch the price by skipping drinks or desert if you can and really enjoy!

Where Madonna goes for Seafood in Rio
By ,
Went there because of the fish baked in rock salt - supposedly what Madonna orders there. It was fabulous. Perfectly cooked, moist, intense flabor. I had a simple meal. Martini, no wine, carpaccio, and the fish. Great bread here too. Companion had a great meal also. Clean, efficient attentive service. Wine list looked pricey, but bottled water and a lovely dry martini worked for me. Has a nice fish and sushi bar. Great place to people watch as well.
