Description

Natraj, which means dancing Shiva god, is the most sophisticated Indian restaurant in town. The restaurant is romantic, exotic and elegant with dimmed lights, just a few tables and a large image of the Shiva god on the wall. Indulge in traditional rich Indian dishes like roghan gosht and murgh tikka, with chutney, somosas and pilaf, with ginger ice cream for dessert and sitara, a drink. There is also a vegetarian menu. You can order your food mild or hot, depending on how you like your spices. There are English-speaking people to serve you and valet parking is provided.

Nataraj needs more ethical changes
By ,
I was in RIO in 2007 April, we were four members plan to visit the Indian hotel with huge expetation, there we found Mr. George from Kerala, as owner of the hotel, he talked to us little and took order of Paratha, Mutton Kasha, one Vegitable etc, but soon I found this is not at all Indian made food, the cook was Brasilian too. So, its my turn to open a hotel there soon. A Perfect Indian Restaurent. isn it a good Idea???

Better than Raajmahal
By ,
Not much choice of Indian Restaurant in Rio, however Natraj is much better than Raajmahal. Place is small but elegant/great ambience, made look bigger by mirror on one side of wall. Nice for romantic dinner. Thali/Platter served for 2 was not a great quality or quantity.

Very good
By ,
Unexpected to have a good Indian restaurant in Rio de Janeiro. Home cooked, the owner is the chef and manager as well. She is an indian national that has been living in Rio for many years. Was there with a Seikh friend, great brunch all food, chutneys, sauces are handmade fresh.

astonishingly dreadful
By ,
look I am Indian and live in London, have travelled extensively in Brazil and India. I have been eating authentic, home cooked North Indian food since childhood, and really have an uderstanding of what Indian food should look and taste like PLEASE CLOSE THIS PLACE AND RAJMAHAL DOWN, the food was ghastly, if you would have served this to me and i was drunk I would still refute the appaling food that is served in this awful awful restaurant, some words to describe the food greasy, tasteless (when there was taste, you wanted to spit it out!), Restaurants like these are insulting to the amazing tastes and smells that REAL Indian cuisine can create, save your money and go to one of Rio's baiano restaurants, atleast the chef is local!

A disgrace!
By ,
We went our of our way to find this restaurant and were sorely disappointed at the quality. The owner should have paid us the money to eat the so called food! All the dishes were pre-cooked frozen with no taste. While the owner looked Indian, she has no understanding of the Indian food--north or South. The thali at $51 Rials was a rip-off! Save your money and don't even bother. The quarters are cramed and dusty.

Gotta love Indian!
By ,
It's one of the few Indian restaurants around, and has a great manager who understands that those of used to Indian food like it far more spicy than the normal Brazilian palate. If you're used to reasonably spicy food, ask them to heat it up to medium. If you really like it hotter, just tell them. Brilliant samosas. Wonderful desserts - our son is a big fan of the ginger ice-cream. Nicely intimate atmosphere. If you have a large party it's probably worth calling ahead as it's not a huge place. Well worth a visit when you're missing your Masala or Korma!
