Tempt yourself at this trendy food center that is also a delicatessen, a wine cellar, a cookbook shop and a kitchen wares mart. Food is a mix of American, European and Japanese styles. The menu changes often, and the more than 30 types of homemade baguettes and rolls are a must. The snack bar, with a large variety of salads and pâtes, is very popular for breakfast and brunch, especially on weekends. The decor of this two-story centre is a reminder of London and Paris. The cafe is always very busy, occupying part of the ground floor and the mezzanine, where the wine bar is also located. The restaurant is in a separate area on the ground floor. Valet parking is provided in the evening, and booking is strongly recommended, especially for dinner.
We are finishing two weeks in Rio. We have eaten at GeR five times. Excellent food. Great atmosphere. Very attentive service, and we don't speak a word of Portuguese. We have gone for lunch each time and give it our highest marks - and we are well-seasoned travelers who are particular about food and restaurants as well.
We've been several times. Food is OK, but pricey (by Rio standards) for what it is.
Our portuguese isn't brilliant, but it's up to ordering lunches accurately...we live here. On our last two visits the wait staff got just about everything wrong - wrong sandwiches, wrong drinks, desserts. It's just annoying because we were clear about it when we ordered, and nothing was a "special" request...all of the menu.
There is definitely a feeling that the service slacks when they gather you're not a local!
They do however make great cakes...especially if you need one for a special occasion.
