Cabaña Las Lilas

Description

An original alternative within the scope of barbecue-style restaurants. This is a top quality steak house, impeccable in every sense. Located in the modern complex of Puerto Madero (a recent dock-side development), it has a cutting edge, end of the 20th century style. The clientele often comprises an elegant and relaxed crowd. Specialising in offal and grilled sweetbreads, this restaurant is the favoured choice for tourists and Argentineans living abroad, who come back dreaming of a characteristic Argentine barbecue. Recommendations are barbecued pork ribs with potatoes au gratin; isla flotante (exotic dessert) and tiramisu. The decoration is a plain country style. The excellent fillet steaks are proof of the high quality meat they are known for, having bred their own cattle for more than 70 years. The house wine is priced at ARA10.

Take it easy.
By David, 12/20/06
Very expensive ... and meat is not that great, although very good. Hey! It os not a big deal to barbecue some meat. But: they have amazing wines. There are better places in Puerto Madero for a lot less money.

Outstanding
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/14/06
I went to this steakhouse in April, 2006 on the recommendation of someone who grew up in B.A. It was one of the finest dining experiences and one of the best filet mignons (medalion de lomo) I have had in years. In fact, it was so good, a group of us went back the following evening. On the downside, there tended to be a long wait (45min- 1hour) and people in Argentina eat late and stay out late (we finished dinner around 12:30AM and the place was still packed). The meal was more expensive than other local steakhouses, BUT cheap compared to U.S.(about $40.00 per person, which included lots of wine, appetizers, etc.) and equal to or better than the finest steakhouses in the U.S.

Very good, but was expecting more...
By Al Fields, 3/29/06
This place if overhyped. I had a good experience but it was nowhere near "the best steak I've ever had", as I thought it would be. Of course if your go to BA and stay at the Hilton you have to go.

Dont go there
By sharnad, 12/7/05
Read about this place and went their the first day, got seated quickly, the first thing they do is put downa little plate of tapas which arent really that nice and which they charge you 13 pesos for each, this is about 2pound 25 which doesnt sound much but is the cost of a three course meal in other resteraunts, they do keep pushing stuff at you unasked and add it to the bill, I asked for the steaks well cooked and they came dripping of blood, I sent mine back and it came back still slighty pink, my boyfriend couldnt eat his and after 30 minutes left the resteraunts, when I asked for the bill, they got someone who spoke english only girl in the place that did if there was anything wrong with my fellas steak, i said he asked for well done and its not cooked, they offered to take it back and re cook it but it had been sitting there for half an hour and my boyfriend had already left the resteraount, meal was $300 pesos for 2 cokes 2 beers and 2 small steaks which is 60 which could feed you for a week going out to other resteraunts in the city, went out twice a day in the city for a week and never had a meal as expensive or bad, do not go not worth it, plenty of other places to get great steak at a tenth of the cost,

Maybe it USED to be good....
By Michael, 11/19/05
Just ate there with my wife. Walked in without a reservation, and the quoted 45-50 minute wait turned out to be an hour. Ok, I can deal if it's as amazing as advertised. Unfortunately, it wasn't. The waiters took our order, and then promptly forgot it. The appetizers took 20 minutes to arrive, and, after we finished that course, the waiter was confused as to whether we had actually ordered steak. Hmmm.... It was no suprise to me that the steak didn't come cooked as ordered (ordered medium rare, received medium well) given how the evening was going. Sent steak back, received new steak, still medium well. At that point ate it. Not a great cut of beef to be had for either of us (she a ribeye, I the "baby beef".) As others have said, other places in BA are much better. I had to go once due to the hype, and, now that I've been, I no longer feel the need to return. Spend your pesos elsewhere.

Too much late night grease
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/10/05
I love steak. This is supposed to the best place for steak in Argentina. I was there late. The restaurant was crowded. The meat was very tender. It had the taste of a grill that was not properly clean. What a waste. Two cigar smokers right next to me finished the destruction of a night out. No one asked me a thing. A great disappointment. Better steaks at La Brigada and La Cabrera.

Best steak ever!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/14/05
Just came back from BA and just loved it. One of my favorite cities in the world. Cabana Las Lilas is the best steak I have ever had and I have tried the best in the US. The service was impeccible and the view overlooking Portes Madres is enchanting. The steak was grilled, tender and spiced to perfection. It was flavorful and melted in my mouth. You can actually see the army of chefs grilling the steaks in front of you! The tiramisu for dessert was a dreamy end to a wonderful evening.

My favorite in the world...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/3/05
As a steaklover, this is my favorite restaurant in the world. The quality of the beef is simply superior to anything in the U.S. and at a quarter the cost. If you're feeling bold the sweetbreads and blood sausage are both local specialities and the best I had in Argentina. The best in Argentine wines. Fantastic service. An all-around exceptional experience.
