Intimately linked to Buenos Aires lore since its opening in 1950, it retains the charm of genuine Porteño soul. Antique photos of celebrated entertainers who gathered here hang from the walls. This was a meeting place for the literati, including Leopoldo Lugones, Ruben Darío and Jose Hernández of "Martin Fierro" fame. It also attracted such international legends as Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong and the Mexican comedian Cantinflas. Pizza is the speciality here—with more than 50 varieties to choose from—along with international and Mediterranean cuisine. The house wine is affordable at ARA6.
I liked this place from the start. It has ambiance, history, great waiters (real ones!), and excellent pizza. Some Americans say they do not like Argentine pizza, and I say, WHAT??? Their palates must have been so trained by American fast food, that they lost their sense of taste! I find that non-comprehensible as a European. The pizza from Argentina is not only delicious, but they use the best ingredients. Also, they have superb varieties and toppings (Dirk was dead wrong in his review). Because I have friends in Argentina, they take me to different pizza places all the time, and boy do they know how to make their pizza. VARIETIES ABOUND WITH TOPPINGS THAT AMERICAN or EUROPEAN PIZZA COULD NEVER RIVAL.
American pizza is alright, but cannot compare. Italian pizza is pretty good. Argentine pizza is the very best.
This pizza place is probably the best pizza that Argentina offers. When I say that, I want you to realize that Argentine pizza is different than the states.
Whereas the states serves up dishes of all sorts, Argentine pizza is typically similar all over. A medium crust with minimal toppings. The cheese is mozzerella, usually alone. The sauce can be skimpy; and without the zip the states serves up. That being said, Los Inmortales serves it up best.
I do not like Argentine pizza; but I'm a New York style man myself, greasy and zippy. However, those of you who like a more natural pizza with natural ingredients (cheese made from milk and not oil), you will love this pizza; that is why I gave it the high rating. It's the kind of thing where it is cooked great, it's just I don't like it; somebody else will though. That could be you. Give it a try. Los Inmortales is your best shot.
