Punting On The Avon
What a spiffing way to explore the Avon River! While you relax in your authentic Cambridge punt, a boatman from Punting On The Avon, dressed in flannels and a straw boater, poles your craft gently through the idyllic Botanic Gardens. Take a hamper and a bottle of wine, (this is the only punting company licensed to serve alcoholic drinks) and whisper sweet nothings to your loved one as you drift lazily down the river. How English can you get? For timings, log on to the website.
This was a great way to spend half an hour in Chch. We took a bottle of wine and were punted through the leafy botanical gardens. Our punter was very aimiable and knowledgeable about the city, but sensible enough to realise we wanted to talk to each other, rather than a hear a speil. The attention to detail is great in this little company, from the punters' uniforms to the fascinating boatshed with all its punting memorabilia. Wesley the owner can tell you about any punting spot in the world! Just note that the price is now $16 per adult, but well worth it!
