One Tree Hill
Sadly, the eponymous pine tree at the summit had to be removed following several attacks on its 105-year-old trunk. Known by Maori as Maungakiekie, or hill of the kiekie vine, One Tree Hill (elevation 183 meters or 600 feet) is a 20,000-year-old scoria cone offering exquisite views over central Auckland and surrounding areas. Located in Cornwall Park, One Tree Hill was heavily fortified in Maori times and has the remains of extensive earthworks and terraces. The summit is accessible by car or walking track. Admission is free.
One tree hill is one cool place. This is a city park which is basically an old volcano cone in the middle of the city. You can drive to the top where the great king Matihawi is buried. The views are spectacular and you can see 180 degrees. Great place to visit. There are sheep roaming free so look out. Be sure and look for the Moari messages written in lava rocks down in the old crater. Be sure and take somebody you love. After that be sure and hit the Muddy Farmer off Queen Street for a pint or two. This is an Irish Pub downtown which has good food too. Watch out the kiwis love to jaywalk and love thier quizs as well so mind the wheel and bone up on your mindless trivia.

i love this place, not only for the history but also for its peace and calm. it is an extinct volcano and an old Maori fortified pa and a working farm 20 mins from Auckland's CBD. Added to that the views of both the Manukau and Waitemata Harbours are spectacular. visitors get an idea of the small peninsula on which Auckland is based.
a stall sells rush munroe ice cream, the best ice cream in NZ and the cafe is also delightful.
Barely 45 minutes south of Auckland City sits this sometimes challenging country golf course. With a few steep hills and
many strategically positioned trees, this is truly a course for the straight hitter. But, then again, a good slice ...
At 260 meters (850 feet), Rangitoto is Auckland's largest and youngest volcano. It last erupted 600 years ago and is
covered in regenerating bush, (including some extensive Pohutukawa forests), and barren lava flows. Views from the summit are exquisite ...
One of the larger scoria cones in the Auckland volcanic field, Mt. Eden (196 meters) has three craters with extensive
storage, defensive and habitation earthen remains. Known by Maori as Maungawhau, or hill of the whau tree, Mt. Eden ...
