Mutiara is a cosy spot with a friendly atmosphere, and something of a rarity in Auckland--a Malaysian restaurant. Bright, colourful tablecloths and traditional wall hangings decorate the interior. The wooden and chrome are a nod towards contemporary urban style, and blend with the overall design. For an entree, try the Lucky Money Bags. Main dishes (NZD12-18) include curries such as Rendang Kampung--traditional spicy coconut curry NZD15, claypot simmered dishes, sambal, and wok cooking, for example, orange duck (NZD18) and mango beef (NZD14.50). Vegetable specialties include Gado Gado (NZD13), noodles, and rice dishes. Mutiara is licensed.
