Food Alley

Description

As the best food court in the city for cheap and authentic Asian food, Food Alley boasts 15 kitchens sharing a common dining area. It is a bit like eating in a converted car park--but you do not come here for the scenery. Food from all over Asia is on offer. Zap is recommended, with its beautifully presented food from Northeast Thailand--try the larb chicken and rice. Claypot Roast, offering roast duck and pork Chinese style, with rice and soup is also excellent. A fully licensed bar also makes delicious fresh juices.

Pad Thai at the end/right merchant - awesome
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/18/10
Great price, great food. I got a pad thaid from the stall at the end on the right somewhere. I wish I could remember the name of the stall I bought this meal from but it was great. I got the same dish a year later (I dont' get to Auckland that often) and it was identical, very tasty and as good as many more expensive eateries. recommended!

How I Miss Food Alley
As an Aucklander who is now in the UK, one of the things I really miss about Auckland is Food Alley! I lived in Remuera and it wasnt unusual for me to drive to Food Alley just to get one meal! I would think of the meal and my mouth would start to water! Such was the effect of Food Alley on me! Value for money is fantastic, portions are overly generous and the taste!!! Mmmmmmmmmmm... My husband swears that the Chicken Korma there is the best he has eaten and trust me, he has eaten many! People are friendly and if you go there often enough they get to know you and remember what you like!

A great find!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/20/07
Almost bewildering variety of Asian food at excellent prices. Highly recommend the Korean food at Seoul Seoul. Bibimbap for $8.50 is an excellent place to start exploring what is on offer here. I stumbled across Food Alley on a two week stay in Auckland and ended up eating there nearly every day. It may look a bit downmarket but when the food is this good and at less than half the price it would be in the UK then who cares?

We are there twice a week!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/15/06
Food Alley, Food Alley, Food Alley. Where do I begin. I have travelled the world and still think that you get the best meal from Food Alley. When you walk in, you are surrounded by people, colour and variety. Okay, it is not a 5 star resturaunt, but the food is far better! There is something for everybody. Weather it is butter chicken, a Thai delicasy, chinese or dumplings...etc. You can get quality wine from it's 'Alley Cats' drinks service on the first floor. The great thing about Food Alley, is that when it is completley packed, there always seems to be one person leaving and a seat available. People come and go and are always satisfied. Resources include free Asian and New Zealand newspapers, ATM machines, elevators, near by parking, escalator... There is even an ice-cream store for those who would like to compliment their Asian delicasy with a creamy delight.

Alley is heaven
By K, 8/23/04
The food here is definitely the best to be found in the entire Auckland whether you are comparing food, price or location. The variety spoils you crazy and the authenticity of the food is amazing as compared to the real thing in Asian cities and the stall holders are amazingly humble and friendly and extremely good cooks! Eating in Food Alley has a totally family atmostphere, the first floor is perpetually packed day and night for customers who just want a quick lunch to fill their tummies. If you would prefer a more leisurely lunch, simply find a seat on the second floor where drinks are also sold, and you can enjoy your food in a quieter corner or even read a book with a coffee or yummy smoothie. Recommended stalls include the beef noodle stall and japanese food on the second floor, and the thai, korean, japanese and chicken rice stall on the first floor. Claypot's also a hot favourite, as well as the wide variety of drinks and concoctions at super reasonable prices at Alleycats, the bar on the first floor. Definitely worth a visit when you are in Auckland!
