Tanuki's Cave (Yakitori), Auckland

Below the Tanuki Sushi and Sake Bar is Tanuki's Cave. This, quite separate establishment, serves up informal Yakitori and Kushiage style food at very reasonable prices. A basic Dom Buri costs NZD8.50 and skewers of grilled and barbecued meat and vegetables (Yakitori), and meat and vegetables dipped in egg and breadcrumbs then cooked in soya oil (Kushiage), can be added for around NZD3 each. There is a small wine list and lots of Japanese beer and sake on offer, ensuring an interesting and fun night out.
