Best known to most Australians as the drug and red light capital of Australia, the "Cross" is a sleazy collection of strip clubs, adult bookshops, and tacky nightclubs. Over the years many attempts have been made to transform the area into something a little more "respectable": small trendy cafes, restaurants, and shops have sprung up on the fringes, but the area still attracts a different type of visitor. Potts Point is perhaps the most desirable location, at the lower end of the Cross. It is here you will find the glamorous townhouses, hotels, bars, and restaurants.
There is nothing bad to say about the Cross. If you want a place to stay where with friendly people all around, loads of parties to hit and out of the way of nothing, This is the spot. We are currently staying in the cheapest hostel in sydney, (16 a night) and its perfect. Yes there could be a little more paint on the wall in some places but it has everything you need, kitchen, free internet, and loads of people. Perk? wicked night life. Its not as bad as they say
One bizzare place, All these differient characters along one street - aboriginals outside burgerking with their sterios & endless batteries, tramps that patrol the same route everyday, hookers that try to get you even when you've just been shopping and strip joint bouncers waiting to grab you.
You feel its a show put on thats the same mad thing everyday but can never catch the actors having a break - They keep going on 24 hrs 7 days 52 weeks !!!!!!!!!
