New River Walk
Description
The New River Walk is a walkway that runs alongside the New River, a manmade waterway built in 1613. It was built to bring fresh water from the River Lee into London. Its 20-mile length runs between Ware and Hertford in Hertfordshire down to Stoke Newington. The construction was first started by Edmund Colthurst who received a charter from King James I, but after running out of funds after the first two miles of construction, the work was completed by Sir Hugh Myddleton and officially opened on September 29th 1613. The New River Walk is the ideal opportunity to experience a little bit of country in a big city. -Caroline Collard
