Opened in 1838, David Jones is the oldest department store in the world still trading under its original name. With seven levels spread over two stores, linked by an underground tunnel, this is Sydney's answer to Harrods. You will find fashion, home wares, cosmetics and gifts of superb quality. And if you only manage to visit one floor, the Food Hall is a must, with its gourmet delicacies, both imported and local, fine wines, oyster bar and coffee bar.
David Jones played a special role in my growing up. I have fond memories of the first moment i opened the bronze doors of the Elizabeth Street store, entering the amazing perfumery one knows they are in shopping HEAVEN. David Jones Sydney is Sydneys answer to Harrods. David Jones is a retail experience for me like no other. From the lower ground floors, with the delicious Foodhall with the its famous hand made choclates to the international labels, grand piano and great resturant of the top floor. The experience of David Jones is vibrant with constant murmur of classical music and receipt printers. Anyone travelling to Sydney should pay a visit to the store that promises "the best and most exclusive goods" and to carry "a stock that embraces the everyday wants of mankind at large."

I will be coming back to Australia with my girlfriend next year and I hope to find the same good 'ol DJ (bigger and nicer) there where I found it. I'd love to visit the Sydney store too...I suppose it's plushier than at Wolly, but it's still David Jones.
