Favela Hype, Rio de Janeiro

Since 2001, Favela Hype has been supplying chic Cariocas (Rio locals) with cute tees, sexy dresses and flirty skirts. The label, which was founded by sisters Kananda and Krishna Soares, has its headquarters and showroom up in leafy, bohemian Santa Teresa, but now supplies its super-trendy fashion ranges to boutiques across Brazil and Europe. The clothes are not for shrinking violets – featuring bright colors and Carioca-sexy cuts – but are perfect for those who want to stand out in a crowd. Many of the designs are one-offs, and styles range from casual to ultra-glam. Opening hours here are somewhat erratic – you will be as likely to find Favela Hype open at 11pm on a Sunday as at 4pm on a weekday. - Lucy Bryson
