Kokumin shukusha Meiko Shirahama Lodge is a government-sponsored lodge that offers clean rooms and two meals a day for a very affordable price. All guests eat together at a large table in the dining room. One of the oldest and most popular in Japan, the onsen is located in the coastal hot spring resort of Shirahama on the Kii Peninsula. The rooms are quite basic, with beds and little else. The baths are both indoors and outdoors, the latter being made of wood.
