Constructed in 1867 to function as the abattoirs de la Villette for the next 107 years, the Grande Halle de la Villette is now central to the events programming in the Parc de la Villette , the sprawling city park where it is located. This audacious building was renovated in 1985 to become an adaptable venue, and is honored as beginning the tradition of progressive architecture in the park.
