Description
Located underneath the Praça do Príncipe Real (Príncipe Real Plaza), this project was conceived of by the French engineer Mary in 1856. Built from 1860 to 1864 to serve as a water distribution center underneath the city of Lisbon, the reservoir has a capacity of 880 cubic meters, and is 9.25 meters tall. The reservoir's interior upkeep is supported by the Lisbon Society. It was revamped in 1994 and is one of the main attractions of the city. The Reservatório da Patriarcal was also distinguished with a Municipal Award of Architecture (Eugenio de Santos award). The space can also be rented for events and functions.
