Royal Botanic Gardens

Description

Established in 1846, Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens are magnificently landscaped and boast a superb collection of plants from all around Australia and the world. Spend a few hours strolling around, observing the beautiful black swans and water birds. Alternatively, join a tour, such as the Aboriginal Heritage Walk or the Night Sky Experience (bookings required). There are special holiday and educational programs for children. Moonlight Cinema takes place nightly during summer. The Plant Craft Cottage sells unique handcrafts and the Observatory Cafe is great for light refreshments. The more formal Terrace Restaurant is ideal for corporate and private functions. Admission to the park is free.

Botanically best
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/4/06
We really liked it because the ''Kids Gardens'' had some very exciting and fun stuff! The scenery was really beautiful because it had all the greenery and it was the very best of all we saw! Oh! I almost forgot... the FAIRY TREE [The main tree of the gardens]. Then there's the whole bamboo thing it's really wild like you're lost in a FOREST!! After that it's time to go home and you STILL see the sight!

The best of the city
By KARIF, 12/10/05
The Botanical Gardens are pretty much the best part of the city. A great place to walk with a couple of restaurants that are worth visiting. You've got to love the birds, black swans, crimson roselleas, cockatoos, fairy wrens, etc. Plus, the "flying foxes." They are fruit bats, harmless. But... they can't figure out how to get rid of them. Overall, this is a great place for a walk. Anytime of day. Hope everyone who visits Melbourne takes the time to walk the gardens.
