Chapelle des Jesuites - Lycee Sacre-coeur
Description
The Jesuit order of Aix-en-Provence founded a school and built this chapel between 1681 and 1698, about 60 years after they settled in the region. It contains a very unusual feature under the vaulted ceilings: the only conserved anamorphic mural in France. An anamorphosis is a form of optical illusion, an image which must be viewed in some unconventional way to be recognizable. This was the first church built by the architect Laurent Vallon.
