Description
This château, still an official residence for French presidents, has had a long lineage of royal dwellers. King Francis I died in it. The castle was originally erected as a military bastion. From that period still stands its dungeon, built in the 14th century. Its park, which has been arranged with ponds and canals was once a hunting ground for the Kings of France because it is located in a 20,000 acre forest. Just outside of Paris, it makes for an excellent day trip. Tours are available daily. For further details and updated timings, call ahead or check the website.
