When John McFarland went about constructing this house with bricks from his own kiln two centuries ago, little did he know it would one day be an epitome of all that defines Niagara-on-the-Lake; .fine taste, gracious living and Georgian manners. Guides in period costumes show you around and visitors also get to sample some home baked goodies and sip tea at the McFarland Tea Garden. For the outdoorsy type, there's a picnic pavilion on the property and several nature trails leading from the park.
We went to McFarland House today after reading about it on the web. I love Tea Rooms and wanted to try this one. We got there at 4:20 pm and according to the web, it is open until 5 pm. We were told the last seating was at 4:15 pm. I could see that no one was sitting in the tea room and was very disapointed. If you are going, keep this in mind. I am not going back though. The lady at the front was not accomodating at all.
