Lemongrass Thai

Description

This well-established Melbourne restaurant has gained quite a reputation, but with good reason. Royal Thai cuisine served well is one of the world's most sumptuous and delectable eating experiences. Everything is done in good taste—the decor, food, service and the overall presentation. Lemongrass Thai successfully combines all elements that make a restaurant "grand". This is not the place for a quick pre-cinema meal. The menu is both traditional and modern. Think green papaya salad, blue swimmer crab and black & white sticky rice—all as exotic as it sounds. Be warned though, that fine dining does come with high prices.

Super super bad thai restaurant
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/15/11
this restaurant is good at setting a very high price and bad service to customer...the food is unworthy to its terrible price as there is many many good choices for thai restaurant around melbourne..eg. Ying Thai, it is a relatively cheaper and very nice thai food. Lemongrass never have any reputation in thai food....however many people make mistake.....hope no more people be cheated from this restaurant!! god bless us....

Bad experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/24/08
Having experienced this restaurant on two previous occasions and enjoyed both the service and the food we were totally embarrassed by both when we returned with a couple of friends from the UK. The appetizers were overcooked in reused oil to the point of being inedible and the barramundi was ruined. All this came at quite a high cost. The service was marginally better than the food, but we will never return and intend to let others know why. The accolades for this restaurant are obviously from the past.

Thanks Lemongrass for serving real good food for all these years.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/26/06
Lemongrass exudes style and quality everywhere you look. Start with the food - I have lived in Sydney for three years and Bangkok two and I have yet to find a restaurant ( any restaurant ) in Melbourne or Sydney that is consistently good and reliable. For four years I have entertained friends and Lemongrass was always there to rely on to impress. What'll we do without this special place. If only Thai restaurants in France and Europe are near as good. It's classy but without pretence. The ambience and interiors are a bonus. Some more expensive resturants do not even have a window to the street. Lemongrass has more than 180 views from anywhere inside. Upstairs has more. Melbournians should be proud of you because we don't have such quality and authenticity in Sydney or Europe. Thanks for doing a good job.

Memories of Bangkok's Bussaracum
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/25/06
Memories of Bangkok's Bussaracun - the famous Royal Cuisine Restaurant - abound as we stepped into this classy little gem....Three Miengs ( leaf parcels ) tasted devine and with totally different flavours and textures. The spring rolls are the best in town not to mention exquisite crab dumplings and succulent satays. The chicken in pandanus leaves are a delight! The main course? Totally an experience - large Scampies in delicate kaffir flavored curry cauce makes me watery just thinking about it and the Burramundi grilled in banana leaves is an experience not to mention delicious in mango dressing...Try it to believe it!

How overrated!
I'm amazed at how overrated this restaurant was. Tiny portions at astronomical cost. The Red Curry was a good example - delicious however not enought portion size to cover a plate and at $26 far too expensive. And the smallest spring rolls i have ever seen at $15 for 6 and they were all roll and no spring. Service was haphazard although friendly. I think that this is a classic case of a restaurant which is resting on a old reputation and other restaurants have passed it by. I would recommend that you go up Lygon St to Brunswick and try Thalia Thai where the portions are enormous and excellent.
