Hofbrauhaus Melbourne

Description

Since 1968, Hofbrauhaus has been charming the crowds of Melbourne with its kitsch appeal, thigh-slapping house band and consistently good Bavarian food. Today, it is just as popular as ever. So much so, tables are very rarely left unreserved, especially on the weekend. The menu is chock full of German classics such as bratwurst with sauerkraut and potatoes (AUD13.50) and rindsroulade burgerlich (AUD18.50). Not surprisingly, there is an impressive list of German beers and wines to keep you partying all night.

Not just a restaurant, an experience.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/5/06
I went there with a group of 8, and everyone agreed it was a truly memorable occasion. The interior of the restaurant has a genuine German feel, without looking tacky; the food was great - hearty meals in which high quality meat is the focus; the beer was even better - I was drinking the big 1 litre DAB jugs, it's a top notch beer and the big, thick glasses keep it cold for ages. But the best part about the night was the atmosphere! There was a traditional german band singing merrry songs and encoraging everyone to join in. Three young german slap-dancers performed in intervals, and for someone who had never seen this type of dancing before, I was blown away - they went off!! But the best part was at the end when everyone in the whole restaurant was coaxed up on stage and we all did a tradition circle dance, followed by a long samba-like train that went around the restaurant, out onto the street (much to the surprise of passers-by) and back into the restaurant! To sum it up, expect a lot of great food, a lot of great singing & dancing, a lot of great beer, and most of all..a lot of fun.
