Semana Grande
Description
Created just over a hundred years ago to attract tourists, La Semana Grande (“Big Week”) has become famous even outside the Basque Country. Throughout the week there are innumerable sporting, folk, and musical events, as well as bullfights and the famous international fireworks competition (at 10:45p every night) when La Concha Bay area fills with crowds gaping at the brilliant 30-minute-long displays. The fun goes on throughout the night, mostly in the bars of the old quarter (parte vieja) . The Semana Grande is a wonderful opportunity for those visiting San Sebastian at this time of the year to really let their hair down. La Semana Grande takes place during whichever week the 15th of August falls.
